OUR LAKES

Ash Ground

Ash grounds lake is a well-established spring fed water comprising of 5.8 acres and a 1000+yrds of well tendered bank it’s an attractive 24-peg lake that is well stocked with common and mirror carp with some weighing in at 33+lbs.

With more than a 1000 yards of bank Ash grounds has several attractive islands within easy casting distance this lake also offers many sub surface features including gravel bars and an undulating bed with some deeper pockets with depths to 10ft, the margins are also home to a varied array of aquatic vegetation including Reed mace, Bull rushes and water lilies providing both cover and spawning sites.

Hobbs Croft

This lake offers both open water and the opportunity to fish close to islands and features. Hobbs Croft covers 3.5 acres and has 20 pegs.

With a larger grass area that makes it ideal for visting families wanting to experience fishing. This lake holds the same species of fish as Ash Grounds,

For the pleasure and match angler this lake holds smaller Common & Mirror carp, roach, rudd, perch, bream, tench, F1’s and crucian carp.

Hill & Black

Unlike some lakes that have been converted from farm reservoirs that can featureless the Fennes has made great strides in landscaping this water and providing features. The depths range from 8ft to 4ft with numerous sub surface features that consist of clear gravel patches, silt gulleys and large weed beds.

Again this lake holds the same species of fish as the other two lakes on the Fennes complex. For the pleasure and match angler this lake holds some large Common & Mirror carp, roach, rudd, perch, bream, tench, F1’s and crucian carp.

This is a survey so as many comments and opinions as possible please.

We are talking about the food van at fennes and we are going to do a breakfast menu. I have put forward that we make the van (after breakfast) a pie and mash van. Various different flavours of pie, vegetarian option. Liqueur and gravy options.

Its simple for us, and we will make it better then anything in the local area.

This is your lake, so we want opinions (not abuse if you don’t like it). Shop and toilets are coming on amazingly and preparing for the new season. Hill and black will be coloured again this year and stating this week. Has to start while oxygen levels are high and this may knock the fish back initially but if your sensible you will use strong smells rather then hi visibility baits.

Nice what about stew and dumpling in winter or something like that

Changing the subject. I think a great idea would be equipment drop off and collection from carpark to swim using your quad/ trailer? Could charge a fiver per person for return trip. Saves dragging equipment up the slopes

Yes please… do you know what times it will be open ?

New shop is coming along nicely, please respect and leave alone when there and will open in the spring. Work on islands has been happening this week and middle island now has been cut back hard to allow wind to add oxygen to the water. Next week we will start on far end islands by swims, 7,8,9,10,11,12. Please therefore leave these swims free Tuesday and Wednesday. If you fish there, we will be chainsawing, cutting and burning so fish will probably go up the other end.
It’s muddy, can’t do anything about it but rest assured, by end of march we will have it flatter, sown grass seed, fixed swims that need it, removed sticks from margins (as much as possible) and improved the island fishing. All we ask is respect the lake, other fisherman, stop casting into the middle of the islands as fish don’t go on land and use it, it is your lake, some great fish, not the easiest but will be one of the nicest!!!

Pictures of the new shop, toilets and showers that are being built at Fennes fishing ready for the new season. This amazing new facility is again from investment by Ned and Kate to make your experience even more comfortable.

In January we will start to advertise for staff to man the shop and the food van, so next year your Fennes Fishing sessions will be even more amazing.

Yesterday saw the start of the building works for new toilets, showers, shop. The building has come down and today the old base and commencement of the groundworks will happen. This means that there will be some challenges around debris etc from building works. We ask all of you to please stay off the building works and while it is happening and support us to ensure that there is no cars parked near to this works. This works will take a few months to do but the end result will mean better facilities, better experiences and opportunities to do longer sessions and be able to shower.

We will be starting the cutting on the islands in Early January and will post which swims will close around ashgrounds for those days.

2025, will be a great year at the Fennes and hope that you will all continue to support the fishery.
